Palanga

Why Visit?

Lithuania's classic summer resort—fun, relaxing, and full of entertainment.

About Palanga:

Palanga is Lithuania's favourite beach town.

It has sandy beaches, fresh pine forests, and that happy holiday buzz that starts as soon as you get there. The long stretch of Baltic coastline is what makes the town so special. The soft, pale sand, gentle waves, and sunsets that turn the whole sky gold are all beautiful.

The famous Palanga Pier goes a long way out into the sea. It's great for evening walks and photos that look good no matter the lighting.

Birutė Park is a quieter area of Palanga, located behind the beach. It features lush paths, fragrant pines, and the beautiful Amber Museum, housed in a 19th-century palace surrounded by well-kept gardens. It's the best place to find out about the area's famous "Baltic gold."

Basanavičius Street is the town's busy main street and a great place to go for something livelier. There are many cafés, ice cream stands, music, rides, and people enjoying themselves during the holidays. It becomes a large outdoor party on warm summer nights.

Palanga has a nostalgic, carefree feel. Families build sandcastles, cyclists zip along forest paths, and everyone stops to watch the sun go down over the Baltic Sea.

Things to Do:

Things to Do at the Beach and by the Sea:

• Palanga Beach: The long, sandy beaches along the Baltic Sea are great for swimming, sunbathing, and walking at sunset. The beach atmosphere in Palanga is one of its best features. You can walk along the beach or sit back and enjoy a drink at a beach kiosk.

•The Gates of Dawn- they are the only city gate still standing and are home to a famous chapel with a miraculous icon. They are also crucial to Vilnius' spiritual history.

• Palanga Pier: A wooden pier that goes about 470 meters into the sea. It's a great place to walk, fish, or watch the sun set.

• Palanga Children's Park / Water Trampoline Park: Seasonal play areas and water attractions for families who visit in the summer.

Museums, Culture and Local Places:

• Palanga Amber Museum (Tiškevičiai Palace)- This museum has the biggest collection of amber in the area, with pieces that have been around for a long time and beautiful amber art. The Botanical Garden is home to this building, which was built in the 1800s.

• Basanavičiaus Street Promenade: This busy main pedestrian street is full of cafés, restaurants, shops, and entertainment. It's a great place to shop, watch people, and try local food.

• Palanga Old Town and Historic Buildings: Walk around charming streets and places outside of the beach to take pictures and shop at local boutiques.

Foods and Snacks:

• Smoked Fish: Freshly smoked fish (usually herring, flounder, or eel) sold near the beach and in markets. It's simple, salty, and very local.

• Baltic Herring: A Lithuanian dish with a coastal twist that can be marinated, fried, or served with potatoes and onions.

• Burgers and Grill Plates: popular on Basanavičiaus Street. They are casual, filling, and good for the beach.

• Cocktails by the Sea: best enjoyed at sunset when you can see the ocean.
